The best sustainable superyachts making waves in Monaco

The biggest names in the global luxury yachting sector recently convened in the South of France for the 32nd Monaco Yacht Show, bringing together 30,000 visitors for what is arguably the most glamorous get-together on the planet.
Among this yearâs eye-catching lineup of superyachts, those measuring more than 24 metres, including the worldâs largest sailing catamaran, Art Explorer, which is a floating museum showing pieces of art.
But along with the glamour came a focus on being green. As well as delivering a Sustainability Hub, showcasing sustainable solutions and eco-friendly projects, the show provided a glimpse into the future of superyachts â with a number of sustainable vessels unveiled.
This comes as Monaco Yacht Show looks to be a zero-emission show by 2050, and within the next 25 years, with an ambitious goal to first reduce CO2 emissions by 60% BY 2025.
Making their Monaco debut, here are some of the world's most sustainable superyachts.
Dunes
Feadship
83 metres
The latest debut from Dutch shipyard Feadship is being described as a âbig leapâ in the shipyardâs goal of delivering ânet zero super yachtsâ.
Featuring fluid lines inspired by nature, and an arresting design, the 83-metre Dunes yacht is estimated to eliminate up to 95% of the potential negative environmental factors associated with operating a superyacht, compared to a yacht meeting todayâs minimum environmental regulations.
It combines technical features that reduce energy demand with technology that increases efficiency and eliminates emissions â from shading windows to reduce cooling requirements to extra-capacity next-gen storage batteries to the design of the mast, which also functions as a way to cool the yacht, helping reduce Dunesâ energy consumption by 35% annually.
The yacht is built with low impact and a high scrap content steel and aluminium, with eco features including a signature cooling mast design, large-capacity storage batteries and a new type of fuel cell â not to mention, full-height glass windows and doors that reduce heat build-up inside by 60%.
And marking a superyacht first, Dunes replaces short-supply teak decks with a sustainable teak lookalike â think millions of tiny glass or stone chips sealed in a transparent aliphatic polyurethane resin.
The layout delivers adaptable, multi-purpose spaces luxurious, featuring six guest staterooms, a spa area, beach club, ownerâs private deck and a pool.
Anjelif
Colombus Yachts
50 metres
From Italian shipyard Colombus Yachts comes Anjelif, a 164-foot (30 metre) all-aluminium superyacht constructed using natural and sustainable materials and featuring a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system â which enables navigation with the gen-sets off, while a latest generation lithium battery acts as backup.
Eco-friendly materials take centre stage in the construction of the four-deck yacht, everything from the gym, sauna and massage room to swimming pool and touch & go helipad, which can be converted into a sunbathing platform. Among advanced technological features,
Anjelif leverages cold plasma to santise the incoming air (for ventilation and air conditioning). Accommodating 12 guests, and featuring five cabins, this striking yacht â think gold hull and sport silhouette â can reach a maximum speed of 20 knots, with a range of 3000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
T52
Baglietto
24 metres
Designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design, the 52-metre Baglietto T52 is the first of Italian shipyardâs Bagliettoâs T52 line to be fitted with a hybrid propulsion system, with the option for diesel, diesel electric, full electric and batteries. Cruisers can choose a more efficient cruising mode, curbing both consumption and environmental impact.
According to Baglietto CCO Fabio Ermetto, this marks a crucial step âin our shipyardâs path towards sustainable yachting â a path we have been pursuing with firm determinationâ.
Along with its sport exterior profile, the hybrid yacht features luxury but natural materials throughout, including teak for the floors, natural leather for the furniture, limestone for the stairs and marble for the bathrooms.
Comfortably sleeping up to nine guests in five spacious guest staterooms, key features include a three-level beach club with 24-metre-long sundeck and large pool that can easily be concealed thanks to a vertically-moving floor, a glass-encased sky lounge.
