Dubai crowned sixth best city in the world for 2024

Dubai crowned sixth best city in the world for 2024
Among the world’s top 10 most desirable places to live, Dubai follows Singapore, Tokyo, New York, Paris and London in the 2024 Best Cities rankings

Continuing to rise in multiple global rankings, Dubai has now been named sixth best global city.

The UAE emirate edged out competitors like San Francisco, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Seoul to secure sixth place in Resonance Consultancy’s World’s Best Cities Report 2024

Dubbed the ‘most comprehensive study of its kind’ by Bloomberg, the report analyses 270 global cities to determine the top 100 – identifying cities that are the most desirable, liveable and prosperous for locals, visitors and businesspeople.

This accolade follows a recent study by Savills which this year crowns Dubai as the best city in the world for executive nomads, thanks in no small part to its fabulous lifestyle, can-do business environment, and great connectivity (both physical and digital), not to mention prime residential rental market. While earlier this year, Dubai topped the world's most picturesque city list in a Travelbag study.

With year-round sun, low crime rates, home to the tallest building in the world, a tax-free environment, incredible hotels and dining, and blue-flag beaches, it's easy to see why expats are flocking to the city.

Earlier this year, Dubai International Airport named the World’s Busiest Airport for most international travellers earlier this year, and the 'Vegas of the Middle East' as Dubai is often dubbed, has now firmly established itself as the world’s premier market for luxury real estate.

\With a staggering US$1.59 billion invested in high-end properties during the third quarter, Dubai has surged ahead of other global cities like New York and Hong Kong.

Why Dubai is the world's sixth best city

Famed for its mega developments like Palm Jumeirah and the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa, the city has made breaking world records a national pastime.

While the city ranks eighth in the world in the study’s ‘attractions’ subcategory, thanks to its mega malls, aquariums, indoor ski parks, dancing fountains, fantasy theme parks and many family-friendly resorts, it ranks fourth in the prosperity stakes.

Little wonder given the emirate is set to be home to more hotel rooms than larger cities like London or New York, according to Zoom Property Insights, with the number of rooms in Dubai soaring beyond 150,000 and many others in the pipeline.

According to the study, the focus is now on the city’s 2040 Urban Masterplan, which calls for developing a 20-minute city, allowing residents access to 80% of their daily needs and destinations within 20 minutes by foot or bike – making “the global city feel more like a home town”.

No other cities in the Middle East region make the top 20, though Abu Dhabi did come in at 25th, Riyadh at 28th, Doha 36th, Kuwait 58th, and Muscat 89th.

Here are the top 10 best cities in the world.

  1. London
  2. Paris
  3. New York
  4. Tokyo
  5. Singapore
  6. Dubai
  7. San Fransisco
  8. Barcelona
  9. Amsterdam
  10. Seoul
